The wife of the late leader of the Islamic Revolution is laid to rest after a funeral procession in which Iranian people and officials attended.
IRIB reported on Sunday that government and military figures, along with followers of the late Imam Khomeini, participated in the ceremony, commemorating Khadijeh Saghafi, the wife of the late leader of the Islamic Revolution, in the capital Tehran.
The body was carried from her home in Jamaran to southern Tehran and put to rest in the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini.
Khadijeh Saghafi, called the ‘Mother of Islamic Revolution’, passed away at the age of 93, on Saturday morning after a long period of illness.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, expressed his condolences to the people of Iran and the household of that honoured lady, especially her brothers and her grandson Hasan Khomeini.
The Leader said the lady, a descendant of a scholarly family, had supported the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution his whole life, on his path of jihad, and lived her life respectably.
Earlier, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council, Ali-Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani expressed their condolences in two separate statements.
Khadijeh Saghafi married the future leader of the Islamic Revolution in 1931.
Her eldest son Mostafa was murdered in 1977 while in exile with his father in the Iraqi city of Najaf. His murder is believed to have been carried out by SAVAK, the intelligence service of Iran’s former regime.
